This is an October 26, 1961 letter from Rev. David Cole, UUCUC minister, to a woman on Warrenville, Illinois.

Dear Miss P….n,

I fail to understand how you thought anything I said in my radio broadcast would make me interested in the “Divine Plan of the Ages.” All such notions, which order the whole universe in a neat little package, are the product of a fruitful imagination and have no relationship to anything I have ever discovered in the Bible. This kind of fundamentalist outlook fails to take into account all the knowledge that man has discovered in the last 1,000 years and completely overlooks the fact that man must create his own destiny with the help of such divine resources

as he has within himself.

I am enclosing a pamphlet which explains Unitarianism. I hope you will study it carefully, for it seems to me a far more satisfactory religion than the one you have outlined.
