Welcome! We’re so pleased that you’re interested in discovering more about the Unitarian Universalist Church of Urbana-Champaign. We are living in endemic times now, and many folks are more comfortable continuing to wear masks in public places and to maintaining physical distance. Please be aware and respectful of others’ needs and boundaries. In this way we practice our values of interdependence and centering love.

Service begins at 10:15 am in the Sanctuary. It is also live streamed to our YouTube channel every Sunday morning.
On Sunday mornings we reserve spaces in UUCUC’s parking lot for guests and newcomers and for persons with limited mobility. Additional street parking is available on Cedar and High Streets as well as in the parking lot behind Timothy Johns Salon at the northwest corner of Green and Birch Streets and the black topped spaces at the west end of the parking lot behind Bruno Law Offices at 301 West Green. Note that these two lots are only available to us on Sundays. See the “Where Should I Park?” map on the Hub Table in Fellowship Hall.
The entrances are on the North and South sides of the building. One is connected to the parking lot, and the other is on Green street. There is a small elevette on the South side of the building that is attached to the parking lot for anyone who may need to use it.
We believe that whole family church participation is vital and we are dedicated to making this possible for families. For the youngest of children, loving care is provided during Sunday mornings, church events, and other activities. Our nursery is an inviting setting where babies and toddlers find many toys, books, and hugs.
Child care is provided by paid staff and volunteers who have been screened and given a professional background check. There is no charge for childcare services.
Sunday mornings
Every Sunday, the nursery opens at 10:00 a.m. and is staffed until 11:30 a.m. (or when the service ends) so that parents and guardians can attend worship. Parents and guardians sign their children in and out for safety and communication.
On Sundays when REE classes are in session, the nursery is open for infants and toddlers through three years old.
On Sundays when REE classes are not in session (1st Sunday of the month; holidays; winter, spring, and summer breaks), the nursery is open for infants and children through five years old.
Children who are older than three may stay in the nursery or may move into the PreK-K classroom if they are out of diapers and able to generally maintain focus on a five-minute story.
Parents who wish to keep infants or toddlers with them are welcome to bring them to the service.
Child care for church activities
We recognize the importance of child care in helping support young families become more engaged and involved in congregational life. Child care is provided at no cost for large congregational events such as the annual meeting, coffee house, or the service action. Child care may be available on request for other meetings, programs, or church activities.
Email our religious education professional to discuss childcare options and needs.
Services last roughly 75 minutes. They start at 10:15 am in the Sanctuary.
Sunday morning worship service include:
From time to time, worships incorporate holiday celebrations, multigenerational plays and pageants, longer musical performances, child dedications, and coming-of-age ceremonies. We offer childcare and learning programs for children and youth during the Sunday service.
Every day, people and families are overwhelmed by demands and pulled by a culture that tends to separate us from one another and from nature.
We are Unitarian Universalist and Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Humanist, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, atheist and agnostic, believers in God, and more.
Like many UU congregations, UUCUC is a Welcoming Congregation. We work for justice through our Social Justice programs and through supporting local organizations dedicated to addressing injustices in our community. Our shared plate offering gives more than $16,000 a year to support local, state, and nation-wide nonprofits. We offer educational programming such as the Our Whole Lives and the Building Bridges curriculum to promote values of understanding, inclusivity and social justice.
We seek to help people reconnect — to help us find meaning in our lives.
Our mission is to… Build Community. Seek Inspiration. Promote Justice. Find Peace.
We encourage anyone considering membership in our church community to attend one of our quarterly Pathway to Membership classes. Join a Pathway to Membership class to learn about the history and philosophy of the Unitarian Universalist Church, governance, religious education, activities and opportunities, and your role as an active member and steward of our church community. During the class, you’ll be treated to a tour of the church.
At the end of the class, you’ll have the opportunity to “Sign our Membership Book” if you choose to do so.
If you have questions, email Associate Minister for Congregational Life, Rev. Sally Fritsche.
